SGLI

SGLI is a great program that provides low-cost term life insurance coverage to eligible Servicemembers and important to know how it works. For instance did you know that If you qualify for SGLI, you are automatically enrolled and do not need to apply for coverage. If eligible, you are automatically issued the maximum SGLI coverage of $400,000. When you retire or separate from service you maintain that coverage for 120 days free of charge. You must apply to convert to VGLI within one year and 120 days from discharge. TSP

The Government Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is a retirement savings and investment plan for Federal employees and members of the uniformed services. It offers you the same type of tax savings and benefits as private sector 401k plans. The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board acts as the plan administrator.

You are eligible to participate in TSP if you are:

  • A Federal employee covered by the Federal Employees’ Retirement System (FERS)
  • A Federal employee covered by the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS)
  • A member of the uniformed services including military and postal services and Ready Reserve
